Welcome to the Rhode Island Closing the Addiction Treatment Gap Coalition
Building a strong, healthy community in which our fellow Rhode Islanders are able to reach their full potential, free from the harmful impacts of drug and alcohol addiction is a goal for our state. We will only be able to realize this vision through the expansion of treatment availability and funding. Addiction is a health condition that requires treatment in the same way that other chronic diseases necessitate medical care.
Right now approximately 100,000 of our fellow Rhode Islanders are suffering from substance use addiction, but only 12% are accessing the care that they need to fight the disease. This addiction treatment gap - the difference between the number of people suffering from addiction and the number who actually receive the treatment they need - must be closed.
The Rhode Island Closing the Addiction Treatment Gap (CATG) Coalition was formed to address that gap by raising public awareness that addiction is a disease, and ensuring that all Rhode Islanders have access to the addiction treatment that they need.
Addiction is a disease. Let’s start treating it that way.
